What a stokvel app should do
Most stokvels run on a WhatsApp group, a notebook and the treasurer’s memory. That works until someone says they paid and the record says they didn’t. A stokvel app replaces the notebook with one record the whole group can see.
- Contributions per member, per month, with the proof of payment attached.
- The payout rotation, so everyone knows whose turn is next and when.
- Late payments and fines, worked out the same way for everyone.
- Votes on group decisions, with the result recorded.
- Statements as PDF or CSV for the AGM, the bank or a member who asks.
Why PulaPool does not hold your money
Some apps ask the group to pay into a wallet the app controls. PulaPool doesn’t. Members pay into the group’s own stokvel bank account exactly as before, and the treasurer approves each payment against its proof. Your savings stay under the signatories you elected.
Rotational, grocery and investment stokvels
PulaPool supports rotational payouts (one member a month), equal splits (a December share-out, as in grocery stokvels) and investment groups that grow a pool together. The same app works for motshelo groups in Botswana and savings clubs across Africa, in the group’s own currency.

What is the best app for a stokvel?
Look for an app that records contributions with proof of payment, shows the payout order, and lets every member see the same statement. Avoid apps that require you to move the group’s money into their wallet. PulaPool does all of this and keeps your money in your own bank account.
Is the PulaPool stokvel app free?
Running one group is free, and joining groups other people run is always free. Premium (R99 a month or R990 a year) is for admins who run several groups and adds exportable statements and an audit trail.
